Logistics: Research

Before you start your research

Before you start looking for your sources, ask yourself the following questions:

  • What do I already know about my topic? Do I know enough to know what I'm looking for?
  • What kind of terms do writers in this field use to describe my subject?  Examples:
    • Logistics vs Supply Chain Management
  • Can I state my topic in the form of a question?

Background information on your topic

These sources may be helpful in gaining an understanding of what subjects the experts are interested in (and writing about) regarding this topic.

What kind of resources should you choose?

  • What kind of credentials should the author have?
  • How in-depth should your resources be?
    • Scholarly or Consumer? Or both?
  • Does the date of publication matter for your resources?
  • Does the place of publication matter?

peer review articles and how to find them

Peer review articles are manuscripts that have been thoroughly judged by the scholar's colleagues at other academic institutions.  This process makes the article much more reliable than if it were an article in a newspaper or in a magazine.  Beware, the peer review articles take take a long time to publish so you may not find the most current information in them.
