HIST 1301 - Sprehe

Citing you sources

Why do you cite?

Students cite sources primarily to avoid plagiarism and give credit to the original authors or creators whose work they are using. Other reasons include enabling readers to locate the sources, demonstrating the accuracy and reliability of the information, and providing evidence to support claims.

Most often, you will cite your sources in the MLA format. Your professor will let you know what format they want their sources cited in.

To create a citation, you'll need to identify the type of source you're using (e.g., book, journal article, website) and the required citation style (e.g., APAMLAChicago). Many online tools, like Cite This For Me, or ChatGPT can help you generate citations in different styles. You'll need to provide information like author, title, publication date, and URL (if applicable) for the citation generator to work.
