  • Michael Arceneaux (I Can't Date Jesus): Grew up in Houston; Attended James Madison HS in HISD.
  • Horton Foote (The Trip to Bountiful): Playwright and screenwriter born in Wharton, Texas ; winner of Pulitzer Prize, Academy awards, and the National Medal of Arts.
  • Kevin Kwan (Crazy Rich Asians) :  Lived in Clear Lake as teenager ; attended San Jac & UHCL.
  • Attica Locke (Black Water Rising):  Raised in Houston
  • Wayétu Moore (She Would Be King): Immigrated to Houston from Liberia as a child.
