Grace Napolitano

Born and raised in Brownsville, Texas, Grace Napolitano went onto become the U.S. Representative for California and helped created a school-based mental health program for the prevention of suicide within Latina adolescents.

Mexico: Dia de los Muertos

Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday celebrating the departed. Toys and food, including these sugar skulls, are created in the shape of skulls and other symbols of death for the celebration.

Sandra Cisneros

A prolific and award-winning fiction writer and poet, Sandra Cisneros grew up in Chicago and Mexico, the only daughter of seven children.  Her writings reflect her own experiences of poverty, cultural suppression, self-identity, and gender roles using vivid, descriptive but simple language, with a focus on dialogue.  Some of her most famous and most popular works include:
