Find Background Information on Your Topic

You need to know at least something about your topic before you start your research.

These sources will help you find background information on your topic that can help you narrow your research question to a manageable size and also suggest some search terms you might use once you begin your research.

You will be looking for answers to questions like:

  • When / where / who are important to the subject I'm researching?
  • What do scholars in this area talk about when they are writing about this topic?
  • What are some terms and phrases that researchers on this topic use?
