As you prepare for your Fall courses, please see below for important updates regarding the Syllabus template.
Attached you will find two versions of the updated syllabus for fall 2019. The difference between the two syllabi involves the formatting of the assignment/test schedule chart in either landscape or portrait view. A significant change in this chart involves the addition of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) information to the schedule. In addition, there are several updates/changes to the syllabus as outlined below:
- Information for students as to how to access Grammarly is new to the syllabus as this is a new program we are providing for students, faculty, and staff.
- Directions on how to access Blackboard as well as how to obtain help from the help desk are included.
- A notification to students about the required use of student email for official communications from the college and instructors is added.
- Bookstore information
- Attendance policy information shortened with an updated link to the 2019 – 2020 catalog.
- Withdrawal and drop policy has been updated as beginning in Fall 2019, and instructors will no longer be able to drop students. This updated drop policy was reviewed by faculty, approved by CAAC and vetted by representative staff in academic and student affairs administration.
- A longer list of student academic and success support information is included.
- A place to add student learning outcomes and tie them to specific assignments has been added.
- A grading component chart to assist students in understanding the components of their grades.
- Information noting that instructors must communicate in writing any changes in the course schedule or grading determination.
All of the links in the attached syllabus templates are updated to the 2019 – 2020 Catalog. Therefore, using an old syllabus template will result in incorrect links to an outdated catalog. Thank you for your patience with regard to the syllabus updates.
All faculty MUST use the updated Syllabus Template. Please note that there are two (2) separate requirements for posting your Syllabus:
- PeopleSoft myLC – Faculty Center – Syllabus for Public Access: Instructors must have their Syllabus uploaded via PeopleSoft myLC PRIOR to the first day of the session. This will put us in compliance with HB 2504 Texas State Law regarding publicly accessible syllabi.
- Blackboard – Course – Syllabus for Enrolled Student Access: Instructors must have their Syllabus uploaded to their Blackboard Course PRIOR to the first day of the session. This will assist students in planning and managing their semester.
For Fall 16-Wk and 8Wk1 Session, the first day of the session is August 26th. To assist you with inserting the correct Drop Date on your syllabus, the “Session & Drop Dates” for Fall can be found online via the red PDF document links on the Calendar webpage: http://www.lee.edu/calendar/
